Cape Charles is the largest town in the county and has recently been designated an Historic District on the state and national levels. This late 1800’s town was born from the need for a southern terminal of the Pennsylvania-Norfolk Railroad. Cape Charles is one of Virginia’s largest historic districts with a vast collection of homes and commercial buildings depicting several architectural styles. Cape Charles offers a commercial center with shops, restaurants, antiques, medical services, churches of all denominations, public beach, golf, harbor, marinas, boat ramp, sport fishing, summer rentals and one of the last remaining rail barges in the country, which regularly crosses the Chesapeake Bay to Norfolk. Chesapeake Charm is open year around for your enjoyment. Borrow our beach chairs for a day on the unspoiled, gentle waters of the Chesapeake Bay just two blocks from the house or take a stroll through town to the galleries and antique and gift shops. Bicycles are available for a pleasant pedal on a seldom-traveled scenic back road or around town. Fishing, clamming and crabbing are other activities to be enjoyed out doors. Hardier souls may desire advance reservations for guided fishing expeditions or chartered barrier island trips thru Broadwater Bay Ecotours. Other outdoor activities include golf at the newly opened Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus Signature courses at Bay Creek. Tennis is available at the town’s courts. The Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge is less than 10 miles away. Kiptopeke State Park, located at the tip of the Eastern Shore, is one of the state’s newer parks. The Eastern Shore is well known to bird-watchers and nature lovers as a migratory path for birds and butterflies in the spring and fall. History permeates the villages and towns along the Eastern Shore. A self-guided historic walking tour of Cape Charles is available. Antique shopping, weekend country auctions and area festivals make pleasant diversions. The Turner Bronze Foundry and Gallery are located in Onancock. The NASA Wallops Island Visitors Center is also of interest as you explore Chincoteaque and Assateaque. We welcome boating guests from the Chesapeake Bay. Public and private moorings are available at Cape Charles Harbor and King’s Creek Marina; both are just minutes from us. Pick-up service for our boating guests is available. There is something for everyone at Chesapeake Charm Bed and Breakfast. Local activities include:
